Director McG talker about the possible sequel to Terminator Salvation:
"I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011," McG reveals. "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion. They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity. So you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare, which I think is going to be fucking awesome. I also think he's going to meet a scientist that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick [who famously played the T-1000 in Terminator 2], talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves."

When asked how he and the filmmakers planned on approaching the fourth film in the Terminator franchise he said, "In a similar fashion to what Chris [Nolan] did with Batman Begins, in the reinvention. With Terminator - clearly it's not an origin story - as with Batman Begins we were saying this is the first story, we're ignoring the others. Terminator, no, you have to recognize the mythology that's already there. But, it's our responsibility as the filmmakers and there is no point in making it if we're not going to evolve it, revitalize it and reinvent it. It needs that, it has to happen, otherwise it won't be successful from a creative point of view."

Rap star Common talks about his involvement in Terminator 4.
On his character: "I am a freedom fighter. John Connor’s right-hand man."
On Christian Bale: "I haven’t had any scenes with him yet, but I can’t wait. He’s an incredible actor."
On the atmosphere: "When I walked onto the set the first day, I said, ‘Man, we are in this world! We are in the future. It was incredible."
On gun training: "Not to brag, but when I went to gun training for Terminator, I got through one day before they said, ‘Nah, you don’t need any of this.’"
On stunts: "There was one scene with a motorcycle. I wanted to do a stunt, where I get knocked off the motorcycle, but [the producers] wouldn’t let me. I was open to doing it, all ready to go. But at a certain point I realized, ‘I’ve got an album coming out soon. I don’t need this!"

Character descriptions and plot spoilers

Characters:
John Connor is the resistance leader who fights against Skynet and the army of robots. Three times terminators had been sent back in time protect him and destroy him. In his mid 30's now he is following his destiny leading the humans against Skynet, which has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust.
Kate Connor is the wife of the resistance leader John Connor. She sent a Terminator back in time to protect her husband when he was a teenager.
Marcus Wright is a decommissioned Terminator who befriends Connor and Reese. His last memory is of being on death row, and Connor is unsure of whether he is from the past or the future.
Kyle Reese is a young soldier and admirer of John Connor. In The Terminator, to ensure the survival of the human race, he was sent back in time, and fathered John with Sarah Connor.
Barnes is one of John's closest friends.
Blair Williams is a pilot who is a no-nonsense, battle-hardened member of the resistance.

Plot Spoiler Rumors:
Marcus Wright is a man who's executed on death row in 2003. His body is donated to science and collected by Project Angel, a project of the evil cybernetic intelligence Skynet. Marcus is reanimated, but with a Terminator skeleton. His organs are all still there and pumping, but he's now half-Terminator. At the end of the movie, John Connor is killed in battle fighting a T800. Not wanting the hope of humanity to die with Connor's body, the leaders of the resistance rip off Marcus' skin and replace it with Connor's. Now Marcus has Connor's face and body.

Terminator 4 will leave behind the original movie's weird mixture of present-day action with futuristic intrigue. Instead, it'll be set entirely in the land of machines. But the Terminators in the new movie will be older versions (because these are
among the first Terminators). There was also brief discussion of a new type of
endo-skeleton super-Terminator.
It will probably be the most different film of the movies. It's very different from the first three films because the first three are essentially these hard driving chase films where you've this unstoppable force pursuing the hero. This is dramatically different in its structure and its characters. It's sort of the John Connor story, but strangely enough John Connor was not the main character. There is another guy who is the main protagonist of the film.
There is a new endo-skeleton-type super Terminator that in a way is actually cruder than any of the ones from any of the other films. This one actually takes place before all the other films in a weird way. So everything in the film is actually supposed to be cruder technology than we see even in the first Terminator film. There will be lots of hardware and cool toys to be sold.
